In 1868, American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones founded the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. His idea was to bring American production methods together with Swiss watchmaking, using a location with power from the Rhine. IWC’s later watch families include Pilot’s Watches, Portugieser and Ingenieur. Behind a restrained dial is that meeting of industrial thinking and detailed craft, making a watch an object to look at closely as well as a way to read the time.
