Is this your brand? Claim this pageNike’s story began with a handshake between runner Phil Knight and his former coach, Bill Bowerman, in 1964. Their business, Blue Ribbon Sports, initially distributed Japanese running shoes before developing its own footwear. In 1971, a student-designed Swoosh gave that next chapter a visual identity. Behind the familiar mark is a relationship between making and moving: a coach thinking about what athletes need, and a runner finding a way to put those ideas on their feet.
