French veterinarian Jean Cathary registered Royal Canin in 1968 after exploring the relationship between food and animal health. The company later developed foods organised around factors such as age, size and breed, including a recipe for Persian cats in 1999. That history explains the specificity on its packaging. The brand’s distinctive starting point is to look closely at differences between animals, making the individual cat or dog the subject of the story.
